- Eat a good breakfast
- Arrive early on your IELTS test day
- The test room
- Timing
Now let’s discuss all this in briefly.
- Pack your passport and snacks
You might be wondering why is all this important for the IELTS test? It’s good to pack your bag with a passport and snacks the day before your IELTS test-day. We all know that on test day people are so stressed that we don’t want to be running around on the morning of the test-day last-minute, trying to find the most important document required for the test. Without which, you won’t be allowed to sit for the test. Do check your bag twice in the morning. It’s also a better idea to pack some snacks like fruits and nuts.
There will be a break between the first part of the test (writing, reading, and listening) and the speaking test. So, pack some healthy food to keep you going, and you can think well and perform healthily in your test.
- Know where you’re going
Familiar places give you peace of mind to plan the day before where you’re going, where you will stay, and how you’re going to get there. Check your confirmation email twice for the precise location and time of your test. Plan your transport route the day before the test and try to arrive early at the test location. This will reduce your stress about being late and also save you from any unplanned disruptions.
- Eat a good breakfast
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It keeps your brain working. Eating a healthy breakfast will help you to concentrate and perform well in the test. Be sure to eat something very healthy like eggs, grains, oats, or fruit with yogurt. Avoid eating anything which is too heavy because eating a heavy breakfast will make you feel sleepy, and you won’t be able to focus on your test.
- Arrive early on your IELTS test day
IELTS test has some pre-registration process, for which you need to arrive early on your IELTS test-day so that you get proper time for registration. Also, make sure you have all the documents like ID, and other personal items which are required for the test day. The most important thing, if you arrive late, you may not be entertained to take the test.
- The test room
Once the ID check is done, your photograph is taken, and your items are checked into a secure room, then you have to move forward to your test room and wait in queue to have your passport checked again and depending on the test center, you may even have a biometric check, where you have to give your fingerprint on an electronic biometric device.
Later, the desk will be assigned that will have your name written on it. After this, you will be provided with a pencil and an eraser by them only. You are not allowed to take anything into the test room other than your passport and a clear transparent water bottle. The water bottle should be clear and must not contain any label on it. Scratch paper (rough sheet) will also be given to you for writing notes in case you need it. All the materials provided by them will be collected at the end of the test and discarded. You should listen carefully to the supervisor’s instructions. If you are not able to hear something or are unsure about something, raise your hand, and the supervisor will assist you.
- Timing
IELTS test has 4 parts
- Writing (60 Minutes)
- Reading (60 Minutes)
- Listening (30 Minutes)
- Speaking (11-15 Minutes)
The test will begin with the writing part, which lasts for 60 minutes. This is followed by the reading which also takes 60 minutes and then the listening which lasts for about 30 minutes. No break between these three sections of the test. You cannot leave until you have been told to leave. If you finish the test early, you have to wait till all the papers are collected and you are told to leave the classroom. While leaving, you are not allowed to take any papers or any material with you except your documents and personal belongings. After the break gets over you will be instructed the time and place of the speaking test. It could be directly after the first part of the test, or you might have to wait a few hours. If you get waiting time for a few hours, you can leave the test center and have something or go on a walk to fresh your mind. However, make sure that you are back in the building prior 30 minutes before your speaking test starts. There will be a waiting room where you can wait with other candidates until your name to call.
