IELTS Test Day Advice

As your IELTS test day approaches you might feel nervous to get through the day without facing any problems. We all get a little anxious don’t we? To make sure you get through your IELTS examinations as smoothly as possible we have put together a list of things you need to take care of before, during and after your IELTS examinations. This information will help you understand what happens on your IELTS test day.

You need to reach the IELTS exam time early or before time as the verification of your documents may vary between test venues. Besides, a little extra time in your hand wouldn’t harm anything. If the IELTS exam center is not nearby; note the distance, the time it takes to reach and try going there every day for a week to take a judgment on the traffic so that you are fully prepared and reach the test venue on time. If you arrive late, you won’t be able to give IELTS exams.

You will be asked to lock up all your personal belongings after you have checked in and then you will be guided by the supervisor to your seat. After this point, you won’t be allowed to talk to any of your fellow IELTS test takers.

Keep in Mind the list of things upon arrival;

1. Read all the terms and condition which can be found in the information part of your application form
2. Arrive early for your IELTS test.
3. Keep your personal belongings away. Mobile Phones or any other electronic devices to be switched off.
4. There are no breaks during the Listening, Reading and Writing tests and the test takes 2 hours and 40 minutes of your time.
5. You are only allowed to bring a transparent water bottle in the exam hall. No food items will be encouraged.

What documents to carry on the day of IELTS Test?

Your documents are verified by the invigilator upon your arrival. The document received by you when you registered for the IELTS examinations confirms your Identity card that you will need on the day of your test. If you go with the incorrect ID you won’t be allowed to sit for the exams. IELTS staff will take a picture of you before the IELTS test as an additional measure and the photograph will be used on your report card. Some countries require your finger print as well.

During the IELTS Test

You are only allowed with a few things during your test that includes; your pen, pencil, ID and an eraser on your desk. If you want to use the washroom or ask any question during the test during the IELTS test, just raise your hand without disturbing fellow IELTS test takers. During Listening test, check whether you can hear the recording clearly, if you can’t, inform the invigilators immediately.

After the test:

• Remain seated until you have the supervisors permission to leave the IELTS test room
• If you had any issues during your IELTS exams, don’t wait. Inform the invigilator right away.
• If you wish to register a complaint about your IELTS test day, do it within one week of the test date by filling a complain form.

What to do if you have made any special arrangements for the test day?

In case of any special arrangements due to disability or any other condition, adjustments will be made for you on the IELTS test day.

Can I do all parts of the test on the same day?

The Listening, Reading, and Writing parts of the test are completed immediately one after the other on the same day. In some test venues, you will sit the Speaking test on the same day, or up to 7 days before or after your test date.
